If you’ve been reading my posts you already know about my mission and superpowers but if this is your first time to land on X Ray Cat’s blog then you can learn about my superpowers and mission here.
So as you know I’m always guided to the the most amazing globe hoppers and tough cat travelers around the world.
What’s even more amazing is that my mission has been noticed :)
How so? Well Simon actually found me and contacted me on X Ray Cat facebook page.
We started talking and not so long after I found myself x-raying through the deserts, jungles and villages in Africa, diving into his wonderful life through his amazing blog.
I am a travel writer and photographer. After an early career in the morgues and pools of southern England, I lived, worked and travelled in Asia for several years,
travelling independently through bush, mountain, desert and jungle, financing myself by teaching English, acting in Bollywood movies and working as a pig farmer in Vietnam.
I returned to “settle down”and set up the award winning social enterprise StreetShine before a perfect storm of events re-ignited my wanderlust.
I found myself in Senegal, where I now live with my Senegalese partner, Khady and our sons Gulliver and Alfie, running the guest house that we built.
Even before you my friend can watch the full interview I want to quickly ask Simon, why Abene?
I had been travelling down through Africa, crossing the Sahara. After the bleakness of the desert, I wanted to go somewhere tropical, with beaches.
And here was a small village on a beautiful beach – full of Rastafarians.
The people are friendly, the landscapes beautiful and the beaches like computer screensavers.
It’s not difficult to see why other toubabs (white people) who have travelled across Africa decide on Abéné as somewhere to settle.
I built my own house and guesthouse and live there with Khady and our two sons.
We have created an eco-lodge surrounded by forest and powered by solar electricity, and we grow our own vegetables and fruit.
Since we opened a couple of years ago, we’ve received a steady stream of guests.
Say no more, X Ray Cat will soon soak his furry toes into the hot sand there :)
